The Molokai Arts Center is excited to offer a plein-air class taught by local painter Anna Fuernsteiner. This three-day painting workshop has been a big success so far! The final class will take place this Friday March 4, from 10:00am to 1:00pm. Each class will be held at a different outdoor site, to be announced.

Plein-air is a style of painting developed in mid-19th century France. It is characterized by the luminous effects of natural light and atmosphere, as opposed to the artificial light and the absence of “air” associated with paintings composed in the studio. Executed outdoors, the paintings represent a direct response to the scene in front of the artist.
Instructor Anna Fuernsteiner is a local artist who has live and painted on Molokai for 13 years. Her works can be seen at Art From The Heart in town, the Hana Coast Gallery on Maui, Sunshine Arts in Kaneohe on Oahu, and the Hale Kealoha Restaurant at the Hotel Molokai.

Artists at all levels of painting experience are invited to enroll in the class. The cost of the three-day workshop is $95 for the public, and $76 for Molokai Arts Center members. Class size will be limited to 8-10 people, with single-day walk-ins welcomed on a space available basis at $40 per day, and $32 for MAC members. Students will provide their own painting materials, and MAC will supply the easels. Anna will conduct a pre-class introductory meeting with the student enrollees prior to the first session meeting.
