The art of language goes beyond words and communicating them. Language influences our thought processes and reflects our culture. Writing allows these ideas and values to be preserved. The Molokai Arts Center (MAC) is excited to have writing workshop opportunities for Molokai residents and visitors to be mentored and inspired by its current Artist in Residence, Lynnette Beers.
Lynnette, an author and professor of creative writing, literature, and composition, is currently working on her fourth novel. The MAC’s Artist in Residence program allows her the opportunity “to feel (her) father’s Hawaiian roots and get more in touch with Hawaiian culture” while giving our community the opportunity to engage in her work. She is the author of the novels Saving Sam and Just Beyond the Shining River and has just completed a third novel, titled Caught Inside. She will have her books available for purchase and signing.

In this second workshop, Lynette will teach different ways to publish books. “How To Publish Your Work” will be held on Thursday, June 27, at Kualapu’u School located at 260 Farrington Ave, Kualapuu, HI 96757, from 4:30-7:30pm. Cost is $15 (Members $12).

In addition to writing novels, Lynette publishes short memoir pieces and academic papers.  As a member of the International Virginia Woolf Society, she has presented papers at conferences in the US and UK. Lynette lives in Laguna Beach where she enjoys ocean swimming and mountain biking. The ocean has always inspired her as a writer. Join us and let Lynette and the Molokai Arts Center help you find your own writing inspiration.
